In-person Art Tutoring Using the Collection at the Victoria & Albert Museum

These sessions take place using the Victoria and Albert collection because it is one of the finest teaching tools available to a serious drawing student. The Cast Courts, the Raphael Cartoons and the permanent collection provide something no studio can - the chance to draw from and analyse exceptional work in person, at full scale.

Sessions are focused and rigorous. Teaching is rooted in Renaissance and Old Master methodology, with observational drawing, compositional study and art history treated as a single discipline rather than separate subjects. This is not a general art class.

Open to students aged 14 and above, including those preparing for UK and US art school applications, UAL foundation courses, A-Level portfolios and adult learners wanting serious, structured study.

I’m neurodivergent myself and hold a City and Guilds Level 5 qualification in Transpersonal Arts for Health and Wellbeing - taken not to become a therapist, but to deepen my understanding of how art supports different ways of thinking, learning and seeing. In practice, this means I begin learning about a student the moment I see their first drawings and continue learning throughout every session - watching how they work, how they see, how they respond. My teaching adapts constantly. I do not apply a fixed method to every student; I find an approach that fits each individual and adjust it as we go. I believe that art is for everyone, regardless of perceived ability or what anyone may have told you in the past, and that with the right environment and the right teaching, any student can reach their artistic goals.

Materials are provided unless otherwise arranged.

Before we begin

Before accepting a new student, I ask to see a small selection of current work - even just a few sketches or drawings. This helps me understand where you are and whether my teaching approach is the right fit for you. Please include a few images of your recent work when you get in touch.

Fees

£65 - Single session (1 hour) available to returning students
£185 - Block of 3 sessions
£295 - Block of 5 sessions

All sessions are paid in full at the time of booking. New students are required to book a minimum of 3 sessions. One session is not enough time to properly understand a student's work, establish a teaching plan and begin making real progress. The first session tells me where you are. The second tells me how you learn. By the third, we are genuinely working. Booking three sessions upfront is an investment in that process - and in your own development as an artist.
