Apollo & Zephyr

By Pietro Francavilla

Join a friendly drawing session at the V&A and learn to sketch the Apollo and Zephyr sculptures with simple steps that suit all levels.

Join us at the Victoria and Albert Museum on 13 February, 2026 at 7:00 PM for a focused and enjoyable drawing session in the Victoira & Albert Museum, working directly from two of its most striking Renaissance sculptures: Apollo and Zephyr by Pierto Francavilla.

This workshop takes place in the gallery where the figures are beautifully lit, giving you ideal conditions for studying form, proportion and light.

The session is suitable for complete beginners as well as the more experienced. You will be guided through simple steps that help you break down the sculptures into clear shapes, understand how light falls across the surface and build a confident drawing at your own pace.

During the workshop you will learn:

  • how to start a drawing from observation

  • how to simplify complex forms

  • how to use line and tone to show structure

  • how to create a finished study to take home

This is a relaxed and supportive class. You can choose to focus on one sculpture or make several shorter studies. The aim is to help you enjoy drawing from life and to give you practical skills you can use in any future drawing session.

Materials: Sketchbooks & Pencils are provided if you don't want to bring your own.

Please be aware, we are not allowed to use wet materials or sharpening blades in the museum.

Meet me inside the main entrance from Cromwell Road (I stand to the side facing the entrance with my back to the information desk area) between 6:50pm to 7:10pm. I have shoulder length dark hair and am typically carrying a canvas bag with a pencil drawing on the outside of it.
Text me if you can't find me: +44(0)7548310132.
