Faces in Marble: Sketching Portrait Sculpture at the V&A

  • Victoria and Albert Museum Cromwell Rd England, SW7 2RL United Kingdom (map)

Learn simple techniques for sketching marble faces at the V&A in a supportive, guided session. All levels welcome!

Join us at the Victoria and Albert Museum on 27th February, 2026 at 7:00 PM for a calm evening sketching portrait sculptures in the V&A's galleries. This guided session focuses on observing the subtle planes, shadows and expressions carved into marble or plaster, and translating them into simple, confident drawings.

You'll learn approachable techniques for building structure, capturing likeness and understanding light on three dimensional form - all at a relaxed pace that suits beginners as well as returning sketchers.

Bring your own sketchbook and pencil if you have them, or use the drawing supplies I provide.

Pay what you can. All contributions welcome.

Meet me inside the main entrance from Cromwell Road (I will be facing the entrance with my back to the information desk area)between 6:50pm to 7:10pm. I have shoulder length dark hair and am typically carrying a canvas bag with a pencil drawing on the outside of it. Text me if you can't find me: +44(0)7548310132.

All levels welcome and encouraged to join.
